Boston Marathon Course Runs

The Colonial Road Runners offers a series of training runs each year prior to the Boston Marathon in April. While many of the participants will be running Boston, these Course Runs can be used for anyone training for a spring marathon and are open to anyone that is interested.

For 2024, we are offering the following training runs.

Boston Marathon Course Run #1 – January 13, 2024 – 8:00am

Meet at the corner of Walnut and Commonwealth Ave in Newton (Johnny Kelley statue) and run 7 miles into Finish line and back. Total miles around 14 or so.  Since it’s an out and back, your mileage can be adjusted to meet your individual training requirements.

***** 2024 Update from CRR *****

The B.A.A. has requested running clubs not support a 20 mile training run on the Boston Marathon course over the last several years for a variety of reasons. Instead of CRR coming up with our own option for a supported 20 mile training run (like we have in the past), we recommended to the CRR Board that we utilizing the Black Cat 20 Mile Race in Salem, MA being held on March 24th as the final CRR training run for our Boston Marathon waiver recipients. The Black Cat 20 Mile Race will replace the CRR Boston Marathon Course Run #4.  The Black Cat 20 Mile Race is a fully supported, well attended event that will meet our waiver recipient Boston Marathon training needs.

The CRR Board unanimously approved reimbursing our Boston Marathon waiver recipients their entire Black Cat 20 Mile Race registration fee.

There will be lots of other Colonials running this race and in attendance to support, encourage and cheer on our CRR Boston Marathon waiver recipients.  Come Run with Them!

As a result of the above CRR Board decision there will not be a CRR organized Boston Marathon Course Run #4 this year.

This is a 22 mile run that starts in Hopkinton and finishes in Cleveland Circle. We will have multiple 15 or 12 passenger vans to transport runners to Hopkinton. This will allow those runners that finish first to not have to wait in the cold for everyone to finish.

The meeting spot is the Park N Ride commuter lot in Rockland. Vans leave promptly at 7:00am and will go directly to Hopkinton. We have a great volunteer crew that will support you along the way, and the vans will then transport you from Cleveland Circle back to the original meeting spot.

Cost of the van transportation is still to be determined.
