Boston Marathon Course Runs
The Colonial Road Runners offers a series of training runs each year prior to the Boston Marathon in April. While many of the participants will be running Boston, these Course Runs can be used for anyone training for a spring marathon and are open to anyone that is interested.
For 2025, we are offering the following training runs.
Boston Marathon Course Run #1 – January 10, 2026 – 8:00am
Meet at the corner of Walnut and Commonwealth Ave in Newton (Johnny Kelley statue) and run 7 miles into Finish line and back. Total miles around 14 or so. Since it’s an out and back, your mileage can be adjusted to meet your individual training requirements.
Boston Marathon Course Run #2 – February 14, 2026 – 8:00am
Again meeting at the corner of Walnut and Commonwealth Ave in Newton (Johnny Kelley statue) and run to Cleveland Circle and back. This is 6 miles, but can be repeated as desired for 12 or 18 mile repeats over the Newton Hills.
Boston Marathon Course Run #3 – March 7, 2026 – 7:45am
Meeting place is 530 Washington St in Wellesley at the Wellesley Public Library parking lot. Meet time is 7:45AM, run starts at 8AM. We will run from Wellesley Library to Cleveland Circle and back, total distance 18 miles.
Boston Marathon Course Run #4 – March 22, 2026 (Eastern States 20 Miler in Kittery, ME) or March 29, 2026 (Black Cat 20 Miler in Salem, MA)
***** 2026 Update from CRR below *****
Instead of CRR coming up with our own option for a supported 20 mile training run (like we have in the past), we will be utilizing two currently established races as the final supported training run for our Boston Marathon waiver recipients. These include the Eastern States 20 Miler on March 22nd and the Black Cat 20 Mile Race on March 29th. Runners’ choice of one of these races will serve as the CRR Boston Marathon Course Run #4. These races are fully supported, well attended events that will meet our waiver recipients’ Boston Marathon training needs.
The CRR Board unanimously approved reimbursing our Boston Marathon waiver recipients their choice of the full registration fee for either the Eastern States 20 Miler or the Black Cat 20 Mile Race.
There will be lots of other Colonials running these races and in attendance to support, encourage and cheer on our CRR Boston Marathon waiver recipients. Come run with them!
As a result of the above CRR Board decision there will not be a CRR organized Boston Marathon Course Run #4 this year.
Boston Marathon 22 Mile Course Map
If you choose to do an additional long run on the Boston Marathon course the map below (22 mile, point-to-point) is a great route to follow (there are no CRR volunteers on the course but their are other runners as well as charity runners that will be running in the area). Please arrange your own course support.
